Typeface...

Here is my progress with the typeface project.

So the idea behind my typeface is that I shall be using images from Google Maps to look at satellite views of different cities. From this I will copy the image into Illustrator and draw around interesting looking shapes of rooftops. From this I will assign each shape to a letter and that will become the letter form. Rather that just writing each of the letters down and trying to remember which letter is which I have decided to make a key for myself so I can successfully keep track of what letter form is what.

Having now successfully completed my key with all of the letter form for my typeface I can start to place them on the page to make words and sentences to see how they look together.

Since our final print has to be done through screen printing my only worry is that letter like "V" and "Z" will not come out very well due to them being quite intricate.

Corrections...

Just to clarify... I will be making a typeface based on the city not a font. A typeface being the correct terminology as our final typeface has to be printed. Hope this clears everything up...

Back To Uni...

Having started back at university over a month ago it's probably time that i started writing in this again and shared some pictures of things that I have been working on. This will all come in due course.

Since I have been back I have been working on 3 separate projects. To design a character for a children's TV show, make a font based on the city and finally make a moving image sequence to advertise a film festival. The festival is one that I have made myself i.e Title and films shown.

Initially from reading each of the briefs I was attracted to the 3D character project. This is because it seemed to be the most interesting. I will post work from each of the projects.

Work Work Work!

Too much work at the moment! Having finally decided on how my book cover will look I have been moving on rapidly with work. However I would love to improve my work rate as I have not been driven enough to constantly be producing work throughout the module. This is something that I will defiantly have to think about for the next module.... owell..... onwards and upwards!

Essay Work and Other....

Having now done a large proportion of my essay I feel as though my work is going well. Having had a few students proof read what I have done so far the general thoughts among peers is that it's quite a well rounded essay. To be brutally honest I can wait to get this monkey off my back and concentrate on the book cover. Aims for this week include actually finishing a first proper draft and then designing a layout for the double page spread whilst starting to look at the book cover project.

This is my current view.....

Still a while yet to go but progress is defiantly being made. :)

Current Work

Work I'm currently doing is a magazine spread. This involves me writing a 1500 word essay for the center fold and finding 5 images to go with it. These images each have to have exactly 10 word caption. Tough.... Yes that would certainly be the case. I have so far struggled with the essasy because I find it hard to put my words on paper. Yes it's easy on this, but I don't exactly fear sounding like an idiot on this because I know exactly what I mean when I try to explain something. At the end of the day it's called PDP for a reason...

On top of this I have to do a book cover for "One Flew The Cuckoo's Nest". I have no idea where to start with this.......

Forgot About This!

Ok.. Something I should have done before the end of 2011 is write about how I thought the end of the year has gone and about my last two projects so here it goes...

Both the General House Style and the Letterbox projects were handed in on time and from the feedback that i have received it seems to have gone down pretty well. From what I gather I had presented two well presented informed pieces. I personally thought that the effort I had put in was equal to the grade that I had received. My time management could have been improved which meant that i could have put more time into my final pieces.

During the first term I feel as though I have stepped up to the level that is required from me. I have kept up with the amount of work that was given to me and I feel as though I'm getting more to grips with my chosen subject. Hopefully 2012 will be as prosperous as 2011. I aim to pass this first year and improve my drawing skills.
