New Illustration Project...

Since I'm catching up with this blog I should also probably mention that I have been given a new illustration project...

The idea is that we come up with a plot and do a 16 page colour book or a 32 page black and white book or and animatic...

I'm currently designing the main character which will be a fire fighting duck...

The morale of the story will be to never play with matches!

However I'm still unsure of the middle but hopefully this will be resolved by next week :)

PDP...

So this week I have been focusing on my PDP.

This is a task that I have been putting off for some weeks but as I have to present my findings on Monday I thought it was about time that I completed this work.

Having to evaluate my future is something that I have found to be a very valuable exercise. Looking at what skills I will need to develop during my final year and a half at university will help me to prepare myself for the challenges ahead...

Better get on with the work now :P

Moving on...

So I have now finished the module I better start doing my PDP. Reading the brief today has probably given me more questions than answers... Least I have started it.

From what I understand we begin the Illustration module this Thursday. This is something that I would like to pay more attention to this year as last years scheduling meant that I could not spend as much time on it as I would have liked to. It is the perfect opportunity for me to improve my drawing skills and find a style that I am comfortable with.

Nearly done

So I'm coming to the end of my module and for once panic isn't setting in. I'm on top of all of my work however for the film project I would have liked to have produced something of a better quality.

This is something that I can put in my evaluation.
One thing that I have not been able to do so far is screen print my work for the typography section of the module. This is due to the university not having all of the correct paints. Unfortunate as it is, it's something that I can't help. I will have to screen print at a later date.

I will post pictures of my work soon as they will be the finished products.

New work...

Recently I've been working on my 3D character model. This is something that I have decided to make out of foam. Due to all of the parts that I need to make for it. Its easier to get the angle that I would like from making it out of parts of foam than clay.

The other project that I have been working on is the film project. Mainly the story board aspect. One thing that has taken more thought than I had initially planned is the film festivals logo. Due to my festival showing car chases I should start to look at popular car logo's. This will help me to form ideas about what it should look like.

Typeface...

Here is my progress with the typeface project.

So the idea behind my typeface is that I shall be using images from Google Maps to look at satellite views of different cities. From this I will copy the image into Illustrator and draw around interesting looking shapes of rooftops. From this I will assign each shape to a letter and that will become the letter form. Rather that just writing each of the letters down and trying to remember which letter is which I have decided to make a key for myself so I can successfully keep track of what letter form is what.

Having now successfully completed my key with all of the letter form for my typeface I can start to place them on the page to make words and sentences to see how they look together.

Since our final print has to be done through screen printing my only worry is that letter like "V" and "Z" will not come out very well due to them being quite intricate.

Corrections...

Just to clarify... I will be making a typeface based on the city not a font. A typeface being the correct terminology as our final typeface has to be printed. Hope this clears everything up...
